Hi,

Idly browsing some charts in the Medway area and happened to notice a discrepancy between the Navionics Gold chart and my Maptech (digitised UKHO chart) for the area just S. of Slaughterhouse Point which is S. of Greenborough Marshes on Stangate creek off the Medway.

Coordinates are 51 23.698N 0000 41.459E and this area is shown as a suggested anchorage on BA1834_1 but anchoring prohibited on my Navionics gold charts.

Any ideas why this should be ?

Thanks,

Boo2

On 'real' charts (UKHO and Imray) it is shown as an anchorage and there has been no UKHO notice to mariners about that anchorage in the past 5 years (mind you not everything makes it into a NtM). I notice there is a small magenta symbol besides the anchor in the anchorage and for the life of me I can't remember what it means, nor can I find it in 5011. I would reckon it's another 'Navionics hiccup'.

I noticed the " small magenta symbol" beside the anchor on the chart on VisitMyHarbour.com I think it might be a yacht to denote a small craft anchorage.

I don't think it's a yacht symbol but I don't know what it is either :

I need to update my 5011! Didn't realise until tonight how old it was! Best I don't say but it doessn't have a 12.7! I see also it says that metric units are being introduced to charts as they are progressively modernised.:o Anyone want an antique 5011?

They've also changed the buoyage now To something called IALA and introduced what they call cardinal buoys .

Coloured charts too.

Just out of interest.
when they were doing major dredging work in the area a barge with a pile of sandbags was kept handy, think it was usually parked in Kethole or at the end of Stangate.
Dire warnings about explosions and big bangs were often posted in local press, most only amounted to a very disappointing dull thud.
Local ballast dredgers still bring up the odd shell, fishermen also net the odd one. This normally will mysteriously slip out of the net and return to the riverbed.

My chart says "here be dragons" are you saying that is out of date as well?
