Morning All,

I have been offered a Seiwa Oyster Chartplotter (first series) for £250. They were supposedly around £800 new.

Can anyone let me know if these plotters are any good, and if so is £250 a good price?

I already have an ipad with the Navionics app on the boat.

Any advice will be great.

Many thanks.

You could ask the original owner - he probably made a police report.

I know it's daft of me but I buy almost everything secondhand but do really worry about the secondhand market for electronic goods promoting boat theft.

macd, it's the stage down from the one on your link (i.e. it only has a 5 inch screen rather than the 8 inch).

Looking at £500 at a decent new 5 inch plotter in last months YBM.

Or seeing as it wont be used that much, should I just rely on the ipad?

Know next to nothing about iPads, but £500 sounds like full whack. Check our here: http://www.electronics-marine.co.uk/
No connection, etc, and I'm sure there are others offering similar prices.
I have a Lowrance, which isn't perfect, but the display is superb.

I didn't think Seiwa did a 5" Oyster. If it is only a 5" screen, and 10 years old, it's not worth £250 unless you're getting useful charts with it. You can get a brand new 5" Standard Horizon CP180i (highly regarded by many forumites) for only £310.
