Chartplotter on Windermere

Short answer is that a chartplotter will work on Windermere provided it is loaded with the appropriate charts for the lake. The OPs question made me look at my Navionics app on the iPad and Windermere is there in full detail. So the chart data is available in digital format, just make sure the plotter you use has that data loaded to it.

I used a GPS for SOG, tides weren't a problem so SOG was speed through the water too.

I had a depth sounder but just stayed away from the red buoys and didn't touch more than once a year, and only gently.

You can see where you are with a Mk 1 eyeball so why buy a plotter unless you are a tech geek?

Very droll. However, I was more thinking in terms of showing water depth as well as SOG.

Having started sailing in the 1960's and navigation equipment consisted of a compass, log, echo sounder and charts, chart plotters are a high technology solution and are brilliant if travelling any distance offshore. A log will give you SOG as there is no tide in Windermere. A chart will show the shallow water areas. So why do you want to spend a large chunk of cash on something that is basically unnessecary for sailing on Windermere?

Because I happen to have one and so no additional purchase involved.
