Theres an advert in PBO run by Marine Electronic Services for a Digital Yacht IB30 chartplotter with 15 inch screen. It boasts Full C-Map Max features and includes a UK Mega Wide Chart, AIS reciever and 12 channel GPS for £1000 (well £999.95!)
Seems very cheap. Anyone bought one or know who it's made by? Doesn't say its waterproof so suspect it isn't. Any opinions out there?

Re: Not waterproof...

hmm. could probably do as well with a 15" laptop for about £500 + AIS and GPS for about £250 and chart for £230..... then eh? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thought that was what he might have been hinting at ... and price for price .... !

Given the money involved ... a) I think I would give it a miss and look elsewhere in terms of plotter combo ........... or b) go the PC route as its far more versatile .......

Re: Not waterproof...

Yes that's exactly my point. In fact having a laptop already I could just buy the AIS engine. I don't see any point at all in running AIS at the chart table though. It needs to be at the helm IMHO.
