I cannot flush fit my new Garmin 750 plotter so it will be mounted on a bracket by the wheel. I will take it in the boat when it is not in use but it does not look a good idea to keep connecting and disconnecting the 19 pin gold plated pin connector at the back of the plotter as the pins could get bent and cause problems. What I plan to do is fit an intermediate plug on the lead and hard wire in the socket for the plug to the bulkhead. Something like this 10 pin connector looks pretty robust and would be ideal.

My only concern is whether the quality of connection will be good enough. Any wise words on this?
