Heres a question. If I set my boat up registered overseas and then charter it back to myself. Would I need to have it coded or could a single charter loan arrangement avoid such costs??
What are you trying to achieve? Normally there is no advantage in registering a boat elsewhere if you are using it in the UK or EU. Indeed the opposite is usually the case. Firstly you may not be able to meet the registration requirements of another state and secondly there are no specific requirements such as safety equipment etc for a UK boat.
Coding is a requirement if a UK regsitered boat is used commercially but not required for private use, but other states have different "coding" requirements for charter boats.
If you are thinking of avoiding VAT then it is difficult to do this if you are resident and using the boat in the EU. Registration is irrelevant, ownership, residence and area of use is.
