Guys

For the last few years I have chartered with my wife and four kids in Croatia and Turkey. But, flights and yachts seem to have doubled in price this year. Looking for somewhere else to go and wondered about driving to France (from Scotland) and chartering around about the South Brittany/ Morbihan area.

Would you recommend this area for two weeks sailing with a young family? It is typically me solo sailing with five passengers, although they will help if pressed.

Good plan, or anywhere else I could consider to keep the costs down?

(My suggestion of two weeks out of Oban in our 28 footer didn't get an enthusiastic reception.)

Plenty of places around the Morbihan area that will keep you occupied for more than two weeks all within easy sailing distance of each other. Don't know about charter but suspect there will be some Sybarite could be your best bet for info, try a PM.

It's a beautiful area, full of interest with plenty to see, islands, beaches, a fine historic town (Vannes), friendly natives, good food, and good sailing. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I have no references at hand, but you are certain to find a number of charter companies in Le Crouesty, Concarneau and many other ports. I chartered boats in Le Crouesty and Saint Malo a long time ago. The French charter a lot, so the market is there. I suspect that finding a boat in their high season (july and august) may become difficult at this point in time.

Lovely area, particularly in low season. Can be frantically busy in late July and August (certainly for somebody coming from Scotland, maybe normal for South Coast types).
So may depend when thinking of going. Certainly prices will vary.

Another thumbs up for La Trinite. Great place to start/finish and good place for shellfish too.
