After a very stressful 6 months due to a serious illness my wife and I would like to get away for a week or so. In spite of her antipathy towards sailing she has expressed an interest in a bareboat charter somewhere warm!
Could you recommend any destinations at this time of year that you would expect light winds and warm weather.

No brainer the BVI.

Can anyone recommend a charter company in the BVI and a possible itinery for 7 days?
My wife has indicated a wish to have the first and last night staying in a good hotel.

It all depends on what kind of trip too your after. Perhaps you both need some real relaxation by the sounds of it. I just came back last week from a charter in Cuba. Words cant describe how magical this unspoilt and empty place was. Take a boat from Cienfuagos, and sail down to Cayo Largo, and the surrounding empty islands and white sand beaches. Cubans are very nice, and i didn't encounter any issues here. I used Dream Yacht Charters, excellent boats and service. alternatively as the others said, you could consider the BVI's although i'm not sure why that's a no brainer, as there are many other destinations you can go this time of year but it is better connected for flights from the UK perhaps. I think Air France do Paris to havana, and there you can take either the bus or another flight to cienfuagos. once your there, its dirt cheap. I went sphere fishing and caught barracuda, and you can literally swim any day and catch fresh lobster. Its incredible. The weather is about 28dc with light airs mostly this time of year, so chances are flat seas with the bluest water you could ever imagine. I would be happy to help you with any information. Good luck on your choice, and I hope the stress is all in the past now.

I could recommend Dream Yacht Charter in the BVI's also. Great condition boats, and they always offer an excellent service with attention to detail. For further options maybe check in with Dave at LateSail who are always happy to help with such queries.
Also, have a look at Thailand, if its not too far away. But it is also a great sailing place if doing so from Phuket.

For the least stress I think you need to be in a hotel at the marina... So the Moorings base would be a good choice... Witha good pool..

We have stayed there a few years back and it was good... They have recently spent a load doing it up as well..

We have also stayed at the nanny cay hotel and resort and chartered with Horizon... Which again was very good with some nice shops for smwbo to browse... And a bit more relaxed as well overall... Plus I prefered their boats....

I would also recommend you make the stay minimum 10 days as the transfers from Antigua are a PITA and you don't get in until quite late...

Tigger is relaunched for charter in a couple of weeks' time.

Warm. Sunny. Quiet.....

Well, she does have an Eberspacher.... And sun does make the occasional appearence.... and it is quiet in Falmouth in April :o

BVI definitely, also +1 for Dream Yacht Charters. I'd never use Horizon again for reasons that are too long to go into.
As for hotels, if flying back via Antigua, there is a long gap between arriving and leaving. It might be worth getting to Antigua on LIAT airlines and booking a hotel there, which would leave you the best part of 2 days there, catching the flight back at the end of day 2.

Thanks to everyone that has responded I will certainly take a look at Cuba but failing that it sounds like the BVI's are favourite.

If you go to the BVI for less than 2 weeks you should skip Anegada. Then the only decison is clockwise or anti clockwise and you could leave it to the chart & weather briefing.

Moorings or Sunsail are favourite if price is not a major factor. [ Both are TUI ]

Another possibility is Canouan but the hotel facilities are less luxy.

Thankyou for taking the time and trouble to respond to my request. We are looking to go asap, but I have certainly taken note of your suggestion for later in the year.
