I need to get this sorted pending a new arrival, well a very old arrival to be exact.

Which scale is the most use and practically balances cost/usefulness etc for coastal cruising - Poole and west really -hadn't really thought about it until I started adding the individual chart costs up.

Are the leisure foilio's handy?

Thanks

Depends on the size of your boat and where exactly you plan to go.

I have got the leisure folios and don't forsee any issues with them... plenty enough detail for the small boat. Just bare in mind if you plan on exploring up any creeks etc that the data will be limited due to scales.

Where do you plan on going?

See my other post... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Just make sure you get the latest edition according to Admiralty or Imray.. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But the Folio's I have cover a nice area, in various scales which I think will be really useful...(albeit out of date.. *sigh*)

Based either in Poole or Plymouth. The latter definitely favoured and up the Tarmar a bit if there is availability - but further to travel to get there.

That as a base and then perhaps east as far as Dartmouth and west as far as Scillies - ambitious enough for the time being! Would like to do as much creek crawling as a 4' 10 draft will allow.

Thanks

Well in that case I would recommend you getting more detailed charts for the rivers/creeks you intend crawling... the leisure folios will not give you a lot of information re. depths... just think, all that information on one A2 sheet!

4' 10" will get you well up most of the rivers around here, just so long as you plan your tides right. I've been right up the Tamar as far as Calstock on a 6' draft before and it is quite manageable... up with the tide, anchor for lunch, and back down on the tide /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I guess you'll have to take out the rivers from the folio and see what charts remain and see if its still cost-effective to buy a folio.
