I need to replace my old chart plotter, any suggestions on the best deals for a colour Raymarine plotter, I already have a separate radar and the rest so just need a straight forward plotter. i have seen in the magazine around £399 for a plotter.

If you are looking to buy online then cactusnav seem to have good deals. However, my personal opinion would be speak to your local shop / supplier and support them. They can often do some cracking deals.

I bought an A65 for our last boat to upgrade the plotter just before sale and my local chandlery matched cactusnav price of £399.

-and I'd go to MES, Poole,Bristol. Excellent service. Ask for Zoe.

Think they own Cactus too, but don't quote me.

boat show coming up.. sometimes some deals there...
If you arent going, but know what you want, I can always get it for you, even though you are in A basin.. !!

Zoe at MES is a real star. I bought some kit for a previous boat from MES at SIBS one year and it turned out that the various things I bought were not going to be likely to talk to each other. Zoe completely reorganised my order so that I ended up with the right stuff and not out of pocket.

Decide on what you want and email several suppliers (seems to be plenty on reply’s here) and ask them for their best price. I did this last year on a lift raft. I got a good quote from the boat show last year and was told this was the best price and nobody would better this. After sending an email to 6 online sellers was able to purchase the same make/model of life raft for £100 less with free p&p.

support your local dealer as they will be the one who you have to go to with any installation/warranty issues, also you need to get properly commisioned by an authorised dealer to get full warranty cover, usually the online retailers are just that and dont give back up

but sometimes they ARE authorised and have a team of engineers (mentioning no names) ;)

p.s. i've passed the details of this thread to Zoe who i know will very much appreciate the comments of some of the posters here - thank you.

Is that legal, out of interest? The product should have warranty cover regardless of who installed it, surely? As a qualified electronics engineer (a long while ago, admittedly) I'd like to think I'm competent to plug in a few cables...

"need to get properly commisioned by an authorised dealer to get full warranty cover"

This is for the on-board warranty that certain manufacturers offer if fitted /commissioned by an approved dealer. Otherwise the the warranty will still be there, but the product would normally need to be returned to the retailer.

Marine superstore Port Solent gets my vote. Helpful, good range and their chart chip programmers are in the back room so you can get an upgrade while you wait.

Good website too, so you can see it on there first.

No connection,
