So the Government is intent on transferring all the waterways to a charitable trust - sounds great - persuade rich people (and not so rich people) to support the waterways.
Then, just as its all happening and getting sorted along comes George and decides to reduce tax relief on charitable giving:
Telegraph Article

Incidentally, in case you haven't heard, the extent of government largesse to the new waterway charity - C&RT - is believed to be £1.25 billion made up of £750million over the next 15 years plus transfer of property and assets worth £500million.

We know we have already paid an extra 6.4% for this year but EA Thames are still waiting to find out how much grant aid they will get for 2012/13 ......

Go figure whats going to happen in 2015 .......

Charity?? What charity???

Currently CART is a limited company. It's directors and board are the 'Trustees' It has applied for an exemption so they don't have to use the work 'Limited' after the name.

No application has been made to the charity commision yet??

Call me a cynic if you wish, but it doesn't sound much like a charity to me yet......

Chap on R4 this morning,a regular donor (1M )to a university charitable trust, commenting that this will affect the amount given to all sorts of charities.
