So the Government is intent on transferring all the waterways to a charitable trust - sounds great - persuade rich people (and not so rich people) to support the waterways.
Then, just as its all happening and getting sorted along comes George and decides to reduce tax relief on charitable giving:

Incidentally, in case you haven't heard, the extent of government largesse to the new waterway charity - C&RT - is believed to be £1.25 billion made up of £750million over the next 15 years plus transfer of property and assets worth £500million.
We know we have already paid an extra 6.4% for this year but EA Thames are still waiting to find out how much grant aid they will get for 2012/13 ......
Go figure whats going to happen in 2015 .......
