The YBW supported cycle ride for the British Heart Foundation is on 6th June, just 4 weeks away. We are being well supported by MDL and will be using Penton Hook Marina for the start and Ocean Village in Southampton for the finish, total 68 miles. There will be 10 ish of us riding, and we are aiming to raise £5,000 for the BHF. We have all been out most weeks since Christmas, training for the event, and it is starting to feel a bit daunting that it is so close now. There will be a bit of a do at OV, and all forumites are invited, beer, natter, laugh at the unnecessary display of Lycra etc. There will also be a raffle where others generosity will be converted into cash for the BHF.

So, we need your help please, as we are still some way off our £5,000 target. On the link below you will see some JustGiving addresses. While many of you have already contributed, and a huge thanks to you, we will be very grateful for any further contributions.

Done, next !

Good man, thanks very much for your donation. Not long now and hopefully without putting a shiver up the spines of those who have been training so hard for this one, I drove the route again today, to say the last 20 miles of the 70ish miles are a tad hilly, is probably not doing it justice. the riders are going to earn your generosity. the good news is I am 110% confident they'll do it justice going by the amount of effort they've put in to prepare for the day :encouragement:

Please do keep the donations coming in everyone, it'd be great to hit the £5k target ahead of the ride and then exceed it on the day with some of the events taking place.. more on that later within the Beer and Natter thread

That's very kind ... there is a substantial chance that I won't be walking normally for several days afterwards, especially as Gary has now said how bad the final section is :(

I'll spread it around work next week to try and bump up the numbers a bit.

No problem, surprised how far you guys are from target tbh, come on YBW forumites, your saving so much on fuel this year there must be a little spare.

John (JFM), thank you for your continued support and generous donation. Thanks to you and of course all other previous donations, we're just 1% away from hitting the half way mark towards our desired total. Thanks again it's immensely appreciated by all involved. Cheers Gary

A welcome addition to the fund raising effort, welcome to the team Dean Smith and the rest of the MDL crew. Total boosted to 60% of target. This is looking promising, with a fair wind we'll hit the target which would be awesome! Thanks so much everyone, your encouragement and support is amazing as always.

All the best Gary

OhMaggie, I don't believe we've met and I have to be honest and confess I don't recognise your forum name but it's certainly one I and the other participants will not forget. Thank you very much for your generous donation, you've helped with a significant step towards our target for which we are immensely grateful. Total now 62% of target.

Cheers Gary

It is fantastic that so many in this forum are being so generous.

A few quotes from donations so far:

I shall be lending you a Go Pro to video this. Way too good to miss!!!!

you're a madder man then me

Buy yourself a hot water bottle to sit on afterwards

I am paying - NOT to see you in Lycra

don't forget the chamois cream

We hope you haven't had to shave your legs!?

don't forget to Vaseline the undercarriage

If you are training in Old Street then watch out for my cats!!

and of course, LOTS of "Good Luck for a worthy cause" :encouragement:

As a raggie I am not sure we are actually allowed to talk are we, but as a one time cyclist I will be feeling the team's righteous pain!

Hi everyone, another bump to see if we can squeeze a little more of your hard earned cash from your bank accounts :) :) :)

A little over 2 weeks to go with great progress recently with us sitting at 72% of target, just over £3.5k.

We've a number of initiatives to raise more in the run up to the 6th June and on the day but if we can get past the magical £4k mark well ahead of the ride, that would make things seem that much closer to achieving the goal that everyone is working hard to hit.

Sorry for cluttering up your forum with these bumps but hope you appreciate it's for all the right reasons.

Many thanks Gary

Good bump Gary.

Also to remind all forumites that the post ride bash at OV will be open to all. Gary has negotiated a deal with MDL on berthing, there might be a sherbert or 2 sunk, raffle/auction, general ribaldry. Gary will be parading in lycra, but please don't let that put you off :D
