Thanks for that, Have now managed to remove the cap and the pipework and found a split o ring, just trying to work out how to get the core out now!

Thanks all, it just says "lift out" which it seems very reluctant to do. I've snapped one of the bolts on the heat exchanger now, so will worry about that before commencing battle with the charge air cooler.

By the way OG, VSWR almost off the scale!

Green O rings are normally Viton, a PTFE base material.

If you measure as accurately as you can the ID, or OD and cross sectional diameter you can find standard sizing tables on line then once the size is known contact your local bearing suppliers for a price. Specify the required size in viton material. If the item isn't getting too hot (<110oC) then ordinary nitrile (NBR) will suffice, so for a charge air cooler this should be fine.

The alternative is to buy the o ring rubber by length and cut to suit, joining the ends with superglue, or better still have the joint vulcanised.

Thanks Trevor, at home on the laptop, I can see the replies clearly now... and the price of that Volvo part!!!

I'll certainly see if I can find a cheaper alternative then, that price is just ridiculous.

Now that you know how to do it, why not put the split o ring back into place and smarm with hylomar, it might work.

To be honest, I'm a bit nervous when it comes to seawater and engine inlets. I'm sure it would seal, but I'd be permanently worrying that seawater was seeping into the engine!

Chris if you bring it with you...will see if next door can source one . OG
