Channel Islands

Good afternoon,

I'd like to cruise the Channel Islands next year.
As my home port is in the middle of Germany I'm looking for a charter company at or close to Cherbourg, France.
Is there somebody who could help me with a name of such?
Thank you very much,
Joachim Meißner

The Inhaberin won't get any emails unless he writes to 'cRoisieres'. Perhaps you should add the German for 'now is the best time to start mugging up your tidal workings too, matey, if you are going to sail in the bay of mont St Michel.' Unless you thought his English was perfectly adequate to read this.

Send a personal message to DEPSOL he lives in the Channel Islands, his usual haunt is the Motor Boats Forum.

JohnM is right. Sorry for the spelling.
The french will let you only have a boat if you got enough experience. Normally they do not charter boats to German sailors because of the missing tidal experience, no problems with British sailors. I am also German, but I learned to sail in England and have been quite often in the Channel Islands with my boat and chartered boats, since it always takes some time to sail from the Netherlands and the holidays are short.
I lived 7 years in southern England and sailed quite often across.
Last time, I sailed to Guernsey with my own boat, was for 3 years ago. We sailed to Cowes week ( just for fun not racing)and followed one of the big boat races, but when we went through the needles, we continued straight to Alderney. Wind was good.
In the following year I charted at Lepesqueux. It was in the first week of May, it was cold, really cold and no heating. Next time I will not go before June. Still it was nice , lots of space in the harbours, but too cold. The service at Lepesqueux was excellent. We chartered a GIB´SEA 126. She was about 10 years old, but in very good condition with a new engine.

Moyse,

I chartered the first time with lepesqueux in granville ten years ago, tide coefficient around 100+, I had no tidal experience at the time (although a few thousands miles) and M.Lepesqueux was most kind, "Soyez juste prudent monsieur", no other qualifications needed.
Very happy customer since, I charter from him at least one/two times a year, wonderful cruising area.

I'm also based in Jersey - if you want specific details of charterable yachts based in Jersey do send me a PM - I'm a sailing person (Trintella 51), and have sailed in and around Channel Island waters (as far south as La Rochelle). German isnt my strong point I'm afraid!

Any where along the south coast of England; Southampton, Portsmouth, Dartmouth etc. is only twelve hours or so from the Channel Islands. this would give you a much wider choice of boats.
Totally agree about tides though, I have done twenty knots over the ground though the race. Revision on tides is avery good idea.
If you send me a personal mail I can recommend south coast companies.
Enjoy
