Last week I unpacked a sailing equipment storage box and found a 1980's pilot titled South England Pilot Volume III published by Imray. The pilot is printed in a large A3 format and I have not seen the series on sale for years.
Anyhow in view of the regular complaints about marina charges and monopolies I thought it worth mentioning the large number of anchorages documented in this guide. This old fashioned rock by rock description of the coast is a contrast to modern pilot guides that seem to focus on getting the best restaurant table in a distant French port. I suppose it is a sign of the times, a marine publisher is less likely to be sued for describing a menu than for a leading light printing error.
A brain teaser for the curious...
How many anchorages are documented in this Pilot between Christchurch Harbour and Start Point, excluding harbours and excluding anchoring options within Christchurch, Poole, Weymouth, Exe Estuary, Teign Estuary and the river Dart?
