Changing the valve on an old Avon dinghy

I am trying to change the valve on an old inflatable redcrest avon tender. I have undone the screw but now have the problem of how to get the old valve out and the put the new valve in. It seems a very small hole for a very big valve. Any advice greatly appreciated.
