I want to get a cheapo Android tablet to run Memory Map and the Antares charts.

The cheapest model that includes GPS I have found runs Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) but I have heard that this does not run the I-Player at full screen unlike the older Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

I have no idea if this is correct but if it is would it be possible to downgrade the Android version ?

Tablet here: http://www.chinagrabber.com/android...8377-1-2ghz-7-1024-600-android-4-1-1-8gb.html

Any other info on cheap tablets gratefully received :)

Tescos 7 inch Hudl with GPS-£116 as I recall or nothing if you collect your tescos points and double them -camera only 3 mpixels but expandable memory unlike the mini ipad.It will run any of the various nav apps-reviews are all excellent.
I have tried it out at Tescos and I am really impressed.
There are several threads on here about it.
It is advertised as running the BBC I player unlike my Samsung Galaxy Ace which refuses to have anything to do with it but try the far more ameanable STV player app which is the same as the ITV player other than occasional regional differences.
I understand that I Player should be being upgraded again?

If you can establish that this device (exact same hardware) was ever released with Android 4.0 then it should theoretically be possible. You would then have to find an image of the system and reflash it. That's not straightforward, and there would IMO be a significant risk of 'bricking' the device. If it was never released with 4.0 then it would be impracticable.

I don't know about iPlayer.

The Hudl does look like good value - faster processor than the one I linked to. I know I would hate the Tesco branding - will have to go into a store and see how intrusive the Tesco logo is on the software. (Sorry, do not like Tesco for taking over the high street) Can you buy it 'in-store' or is it just available online ?

So you don't like Tesco for taking over the highstreet but....seeing as it's cheap. Well, every little helps I guess. ;););)

The Hudl is great value (especially if you have club card points) but I could not live with the 'T' on the bottom left hand corner of the screen. I know it would just sit there getting on my nerves :)

when i got my nexus 7 it wouldn't run Iplayer as the app wasn't updated for the latest Android version. However, it now is. Most of the time apps are backwardly compatible so older versions of android should run the new app fine. The Hudl gets really good write ups and it should run Iplayer just fine. but if you get something else with a newer version of android than Ice Cream Sandwich it should run the new Iplayer just fine too.
