I have obtained a new alternator for my 4108 which I would like to keep as a spare.
It is 'wrong' handed and meant to fit on the other side of the engine. Can I turn the rear part of the assembly 180 degrees to make it fit?
Thanks

In the Olde days (when your 4108 was state of the art) it was common practice to do this. Can't be done with all alternators of course. You remove the long screws that clamp the two end together then rotate the end, finally refitting the screws. You usually turn the front of the alternator, not the rear.

The adjuster bolt is often screwed into a threaded hole, whilst the pivot point is a nut and bolt. If that's the case, you need to drill the threads out and the adjuster bracket will need to be fitted with a nut and bolt. Would be worth putting said nut and bolt through the alternator so it's handy if you need to change it in a hurry.

Thanks for that I will have another look. I've had them apart to clean commutators and stuff but couldn't recall if it was possible to rotate.
Thanks for the reminder about the olden days! 4108s were state of the art when I first worked offshore!
