FWIW I heard over the w/e that Portsmouth Council have plans in place to develop the land around the marina - to include some of the commercial space and even car parks....

Does this mean Marine super store will have to move and what about the Boardwalk shops etc?

I understand that Premier have, or is in process of selling, the property for use as a housing estate.

Yeek!

Good strategy. Build more reasons for people to visit and build it all on car parks, then you have a permanent source of fixed penalty parking fines for all those people with nowhere to park.

If you go to the Portsmouth City Council planning webpage there are details of the three different proposals all of which seem to virtually wipe out all the open space between the Marina and the open common land to the south. It seems the chandlery, boatyard and the Sunsail buildingetc would all go and the boat hoist relocated in the corner near the refuelling pumps. There does not seem to be any provision for winter boat storage and even less parking for berth-holders and new residents Seems strange as Premier have just spent a lot of money upgrading the tiolets recently.

Yes these plans have been revived
There seems to be quite alot of empty berths now even mdf is thinking of moving to Bursledon
Good idea to move the boat hoist but not next to the lock it always has been too fsr from the storage areas 20 minute run from dock but now Trafalgar Wharf is up and running across the bay it should not be a problem
As regards the loo refurbish the originals were 20 yrs old.
Think the buiding of resedential property so close to the berths will be detrimental to desirability

For those interested the email address is: ldf@portsmouthcc.gov.uk reference Core Strategy feedback.

For me only option 4 is vaguely acceptable since it leaves the Board Walk in place and possibly some car parking too. If Options 1 to 3 are selected then I can't see a future for a commercial marina there, which I think would be a real shame!

I heard from the inside that Premier consider themselves a property development company first and foremost, so this doesn't surprise me.

Glad their Swanwick plans were knocked into touch, but you wonder for how long?

AH! Swanwick - the revamp starts in Oct I have heard with C.D.E. pontoons being changed and the following year the remainder.

The shore side development (flats and retail) on hold.

Lets see

Isnt is PS where one of the mooring conditions involves boats being reasonably clean and not being obviously and messily spannered while on the pontoons because they are also a tourist attraction?

Mind you, Portsmouth City Council, Spinnaker Tower contracts, need I say more? Brewery and drinking session arrangements come to mind:-)

We left Port Solent this year. When we first started boating we loved the place, but after spending a few seasons there it became fairly clear to us that the 'boat owner' was the least important cog in the wheel so to speak!!

2 things happened to us last year at the marina that finally made our minds up that it was time for a change...... One of the said problems I thought was a one off thing happening to me until one day the people off the boat next to ours arrived and started telling me about strange things happening with their boat too!!!

I know some people will still love Port Solent and I can understand why with it's 'feel' on a warm summers evening, but I don't feel any loss when I read about the plans, I do feel it's on the decline and Premier have lost interest to some extent with regards to it's berth holders.
