Change to Camping Gaz bottle?

A gas fitter changed my old camping regulator for a proper marine one a year ago and all was well. Until last month.
Then, I changed the bottle and couldn’t get enough gas to flow to keep the flame on.
I had another bottle available, so used that and all was well.
On comparing the failed bottle with the empty one, I noticed that the brass boss on top was thicker by a few millimetres on the failed one. I also noticed that the marine regulator has a different design of actuating pin than the camping one.
I now have a full bottle with broken seal but can’t use it with the marine regulator.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I had a Camping Gaz bottle which only fitted on an old camping regulator. Presumed it was the thread as it wouldn't engage. Really strange. Used the old regulator just on that bottle, and changed back to the marine one after.

We had similar odd issues with a new cylinder, but didn’t spot any difference in the cylinder.
We did change the regulator to one bought online.
So what exactly is the technical difference between a standard camping Gaz regulator and a “marine” one, apart from the price?

Sorry no photos. Cylinder is a 907 by the way.

Camping regulator has a cylindrical pin with a central slot cut out of the circular end. This pushes down on the ball in the cylinder when first screwed in. The on/off valve is separate and takes a few turns to open and close. Same as a water tap.

Marine regulator has a rounded pin, no slot, that moves down when valve turned to ON. The valve is a quarter turn type. Basically on/off. I think if this pin was a couple of mm longer all would be well, but I don’t play around with gas!

I think the marine regulator is meant to isolate the cylinder when the 1/4 turn valve is closed, whereas the camping one is “live” when screwed in and relies on the valve for isolation.

I think there has been a change to the bottles. New ones have numbers /letters stamped on the circular face of the brass boss. Old one had nothing.

There are a few posts on here about “overfilled” 907. I had issue with anew cylinder, gas wouldn’t stay lit, like a regulator problem. Vented cylinder to atmosphere for a few seconds, all good. Since using more gas it’s settled down. Seems a common problem with new cylinders.
