Hi,

I want to change my steering system as the old Morse D290 hub with steering cable Morse 294090 has now 'retired'. I have studied a few systems and believe the Ultraflex T91 seems to be an upgrade as it has the newer planetary gear design and offers a very smooth cable:

The only thing I notice is that the old system D290 has 3.3 turns lock to lock while the new Ultraflex T91 offers 4.2 turns lock to lock.

Will this new system offer any disadvantages (or advantages) to my steering/ feel of the boat ?

The boat is powered by 2 x Volvo KAD 300 diesels with 290 duoprops. The duoprops have a steering ram that is power assisted by the starboard engine. From the ram the steering cable runs to the helm. The boat is a Windy 37 capable of abt. 40-42 knots.

Thanks guys.

In fact googled and found out that it may be more complicated/ costly as I have an electronic 'device' pushing the ram once I am on autopilot. It appears this device must be switched to some hydraulic equipment too.

Yes it will be lower geared as cable stroke is the same thus lighter without power assistance but not as sharp at speed
