I'm off to Benalmadena for a week at the end of the month. I will be hiring a car and having a run down to Gib. While there I thought I'd take advantage of the duty free shopping and maybe pick up some new electronics for the boat.

I'v googled chandlers Spain/Gib with poor results, does anyone know of any or had any experience of chandlers on the coast from Benalmadena down to Gib.

I'll be taking my wife with me so would like to complete my purchases before she runs riot with the credit cards !!!

Not a chance!!
Gib is an entire rip-off and unless you smoke and drink heavily is just not worth the trip down.

Unfortunately, electronics are chaeper in the UK than anywhere else in Europe. If going to the States then it would be worth your while.

Garmin have just issued a notice to all re-sellers stating that if they sell below RRP then they will stop supply for six months, so prices will soon start going up here.

Sorry to be so gloomy but I once had the same thoughts myself.

I agree with willow36. Unless it's something seriously big (physically) that you're after; buy in the UK and take it with you.

If you feel you must visit Gib. couple it with a trip to Spain's enclave of Ceuta across the Straits. It's a bloody awful place too, so at least you feel better about Gib.

Agree with both replies. Sheppards chandlery is not only expensive - it is a fraction of the size it used to be. They also have weird opening hours.

If you fancy a trip you could check out the (British run) chandlers in the yard in Estapona. They have a pretty good selection of all kinds of things.

Couple of chandlers in fuengirola port can't advise you on electronics but sicaflex from memory was 6 euros ----- think about it. In Benalmadena there's a very nice man who fixed my autohelm and he also sold gear (boaty gear that is).
