I've always though a yacht a perfect place for a Chamber music string quartet with the cello player seated in the heads, the viola perched in the companionway and the two violinists wedged in seaberths .. has anyone tried this and if so what music did they find to be the most effective in calling to the dolphins?

Then of course, there are the Glen Rosa variations.

The piece starts out rudderless, without much sense of direction but soon morphs into a series of movements that build to a crescendo of increasing pressure, with the lingering sub-motif of an undiscovered place at the very heart of the boat. How? Why? - Who knows? Plainly not the captain of this mythical craft.

The finale uses a large cast of doppelgangers, with the keening of the Harridae providing a mournful counterpoint to the soprano soloist (traditionally played by a man masquerading as a woman).

This is followed by a brief coda, with the names of numerous fish set to a repetitive Gaelic chant.

I see GR as a harmonious place with the crew all pulling together in a noteworthy fashion getting the best performance out of a finely tuned craft!

I know for certain that dolphins and other intelligent sea mammals flee "Country" music like the plague. Rumour has it that the whale which swam up the Thames was trying to escape from Tammy Wynette.
Popeye is now warned that such stuff is not tolerated on board, and that if he ever tries it again, all his CD's will be rapidly consigned to a watery grave.

Nothing beats a piper on the foredeck IMHO.

Actually a piper attached to the anchor and dropped in to deep water wins every time! Start countdown before Sgeir comes skirling to the rescue of pipers! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Like on the Titanic as it went down - they played a hymn I think, can't remember which, a jaunty "Life on the Ocean Waves" perhaps?
