Has anyone changed the U shaped deck fittings on a Westerly that are only fastened through the deck GRP' to proper through deck chainplate fittings internally bolted through the main bulkhead? My main concern would be keeping them watertight or is their a simple fix to prevent moisture ingress ?
Thinking that the new chain plates should be formed from 6 / 8mm x 25 / 30 mm SS Strap with three / four bulkhead fixings.
Boat only used for fair weather sailing
the head is still willing for the odd "thrash"but the body and the boat ??

If you're worried about water tightness the system used on Fulmars is very good. There's a T plate that's bolted through the deck to another one to which a tie bar is attached.Instead of a tie bar you can have a strap connected to a bulkhead.

I had to split the pdf file into 2 jpgs as it was too large to attach on this site, if you'd like the pdf PM me your email & i'll ping it over

Have now had a chance to view photos of a GK's internal layout, it looks as if the chain plate is secured / braced to the hull with a rigging screw however, on my vessel the U bolt straddles the top of the main bulkhead
By adding a SS strap to the underside of the through deck bolts in the new fitting from the underside and through bolting to the main bulkhead I should achieve a secure fastening for my cap shrouds.
