Chain plates

Hi anyone have any advice re: fitting chainplates on the forward lower shrouds. There is some gel coat cracking at the deck fixing at present and I thought chainplates on outside of hull would be the answer in taking the strain away from this area

Strikes me that if there is gel coat cracking then the deck is flexing i.e. insufficient strengthening below deck. If you moved them to the hull you would need to strengthen that area - a major job. So why not just beef up the existing attatchment points.

I'd agree to all that - and add that forward lowers outboard would restrict your sheeting angles for a genoa.

How is the existing chainplate attached?

If it's bolted a bulkhead it could be a pretty simple job, let us know.
