chafe protection.....pile moorings

we've just moved onto a pile mooring.

most other boats seem to use long lengths of plastic tubing to avoid chafe on lines going through fairleads etc.

Although IIRC i might have seen threads warning against tubing as it can also cause chafe

so - straw poll - plastic tubing or something else (and suggestions for something else)

Off cuts of old fire hose... Fire stations will prob give you a bit if you ask, they get condemned after x period of use I believe. Very abrasion resistant when laced in place.
