not sure were in guernsey i can do the cevni, or cherbourg or le havre.
last winter there was quite a number of people who just took a chance.

I suspect you might get away with it, but it is a risk and I have no idea what action, if any, they might take. They definitely checked our ICC's, and therefore presumably the CEVNI endorsements thereon, when we bought our vignette (licence) to use the canals in Rouen.

If you are now intending to go through the canals southwards, why not contact the RYA, send your ICC to them right away, get them to endorse it, then have it sent to the marina in Rouen. The RYA do a superfast service that should get it back to you in about 3-4 days IIRC. The chap chap in Rouen speaks English and is very helpful.

Alternatively, buy the licence in Rouen and see if they actually ask for the endorsed ICC. If they don't, I reckon you stand a very good chance of not being asked for it later on.

No experience of what happens if found empty handed, but heard lots of stories that its not good, of course that may just be hype. Of course the silly thing is if you rent a boat on the canals then you dont need a CEVNI!

You cant just swap an ICC for cevni, you need to sit an exam. Its a pretty simple exam, but you need to do it all the same before you send your ICC to the RYA.

Contact RYA to find nearest center to take your exam I did mine in a dive shop in Spain. You will need a copy of the CEVNI book, just read that a few times and you should be set for the exam.

Which canals are you intending to use?
If it is the Rance - Vilaine you don't need one, as they arn't VNF waterways.

interesting - I had heard (anecdotally) or people being refured entry through the Rance lock (and also the one up the Triex just before Pontriex) without CEVNI endorsement and had understood that the requirement for an ICC (at all) applied to all inland waterways including lakes in France?

I had always assumed that in France the libilities for not having your paperwork to thier required spec were (1) fines (2) refused access.
