The LCD on my Cetrek 730 began to grow a black spot. The large digits are displayed but hard to read as the blackening area covers them. Is this something that can be fixed? Is it possible at all to replace just the LCD screen? I know Cetrek no longer operates and the links provided in this forum Cetrek posts for possible parts outlets proved not viable. Alternatively I could use a hadheld wired remote control if i could find one to buy although it may be a model 715 piece only.
Many thanks

Well
Have you checked whether the contrast on the display can be adjusted? Might be worth looking before taking more drastic measures.
It is still readable however I'm already looking for workaround in case the spot grows. Not sure what exactly is this symptom of the dark spot, as the data is still displayed behind it. Im not familiar with LCD workings as well. Would it be possible to output the data feeding the LCD into any standalone LCD capable of receiving and displaying the Cetrek data?

There is a Light adjustment. Ill give it a try tonight. But during daytime any LCD light adjustment might not be effective

Theoretically - possible. Practically - not possible. As I said above, it's a custom made LCD for just that device. The connections and meanings of the signal lines won't be standard at all. Theoretically you could attach to the signal lines, feed them into a processor and have some custom written software that knows what they mean and draws similar patterns to your display's segments on a pixel matrix type LCD, but it's not worth it from a practical viewpoint. And it wouldn't fit inside your case.
