Hi Filip, welcome to the Forums. Its all a bit quiet on here at the moment as there is a huge boat jumble on down the country and a lot of people will have gone chasing bargains, I can't help regarding employment but can say that as yet there is no requirement for a certificate of competency in British waters. Regards, Mike.

In the UK, there is no requiremment for a Certificate of Competency, or ICC, for leisure non-commercial sailing.

Won't Polish membership of the EU require reciprocal recognition of professional qualifications? It sounds a difficult technical question - I would ask the RYA, http://www.rya.org.uk/ but of course, they have a vested interest!

As has correctly been pointed out, certification for the UK is optional for leasure use.

However if you want to work in the yachting industry you need certification. EEC/EU etc is not so relevant, as I understand that it is the MCA who decides on what quals are recognised.

RYA Yachtmaster with commercial endorsement is ok for driving boats of yacht size (but there is a tonnage and LOA limit which I forget the figures for.

If you want to drive bigger things (in the superyacht world) there are a load of other hoops to jump through, but RYA Yachtmaster is one of the first and is recognised world wide.

There are other routes, but I declare a vested interest - see my bio.

Views expressed are my personal ones - I might be wrong after all!

As I understood there is no special certificates for non commercial sailing in UK. However with regard to possibility of employment in sea sailing I would need a special Certificate verfied by MSA (Could you please be so kind and explain thi abbreviation (MSA) to me). And the second relevant authority is RYA (means Royal Yacht Association - correct?)
