I'm currently looking for a boat. I've researched Centaurs and it seems that some have a keel problem when moored on a drying mooring.

There appears to be a mod to strengthen the bottom of the hull.

Does anyone have ideas on how to check if it's been done and what's involved if it hasn't. Also, do all Centaurs suffer form the same weekness or is it just some.

Thanks for the help.

The keels splay out and as you can imagine, when the boat settles there is a fair amount of lateral pressure.

I don’t know if anyone has the figures, but I would guess most Centaurs now have had their keels strengthened, and if they haven’t it will be reflected in the price. It’s something to ask about when you first view a boat

"The small transverse stiffeners bonded into the moulded keel stubs break away" - A. Simpson PBO.
My Centaur 1979 build dosn't have any problems, maybe the trouble isn't that common. Try looking at the "Westerly Owner's" site for some more advice, they really are a great boat - best of luck!

Thanks for the info so far.

The boat I saw has apparently had little contact with the mud. Is it advisable to strengthen even if this is the case?
