Has anyone fitted one of the purpose made ones available from Westerly or other sites ?
Details on this or anyone's experiences in relation to this issue generally, gratefully received.

Tim

Ps I've seen past posts - I'm just wondering if there is any more info out there that I can soak up before I make a decision - thanks.

I built one myself out of fire retardant resin. It is sort of pear shaped as viewed from the top to accomodate the regulator, with a lid. It bolts inside the stern locker so the bottle can just be slid in, the fit is quite snug. It is raised as high as poss of the floor on chocks and has a drain hose in fuel grade pipe to the transom. A copper pipe then goes all the way from a bulkhead fitting on the box side to the union with the armoured flexible hose connecting the cooker. I ran the pipe high along the side of the quarterberth where it is visible but not vulnerable, and through the behind the seat lockers and behind the sink to the cooker. The drawback is that it blocks up the starboard locker access a bit, but then again once something is put in past it it stays there! The cost of the box you mention is quite high, and then it takes surgery to fit it - I think I would fit a paraffin cooker!

I had a double gas locker fitted on the aft port side of the cockpit by a chap called Albert Blackshaw.Sailing today - February 1998 did an artcle on him and his locker. He came and fitted the lot for a very minimal charge and made an excellent job of it. His address was ; Mr A Blackshaw, Fiddlers Ferry Yacht haven, Penketh, Warrington, Cheshire WA5 2UJ. Tel - 01925-721881. Mobile 0378 570545(has probably changed recently. The article was by David Rainsbury. He may be able to supply more info. Hope this helps.
