Centaur - a few q's!

Re: Disagree ....

But I wonder if you are the normal sort of buyer? I doubt it somehow /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.
It was just a Broker I know told me that it is always easier to sell a better-known boat, so, at one end of the table you can get a great boat built as a one off, that will take ages to shift and will not go for what she is really worth, while at the other end, he used the example of the Centaur, you find well known boats that tend to go quickly and, to be honest, for more than, intrinsically, they are worth.
Actually, I agree with you that there are boats just as good as the Centaur for less money, and boats that are worse that cost more. I suspect with any boat of that age – and how old is the youngest Centaur? 23 years? - it will be more a question of how she has been treated in the past quarter of a century than anything to do with the original concept/build quality etc.

Point taken and I agree...

OK ... I'm lucky that I have spent a lifetime around yards, boats etc. Also having surveyed countless I can look back over reports / files and memories of various well known and also unknown marques / makes etc.

But it doesn't change the fact that any potential buyer can look around .... try to curb the impatience - we all want our boat yesterday ! - and find many more than just on a Brokers List.

The Centaur is a good boat, sturdy get you home type ....

Someone here remarked that not many available considering the numbers built ..... about 2100 I believe ... that again I disagree - there are Centaurs for sale literally all over the place, mainly due to the number built ...... it definitely is a buyers market EVEN for Westerly's !!

Nigel ...
Bilge Keelers get up further ! I only came - cos they said there was FREE Guinness !

Seahorse,
Can't find your email address on details, so can you send please?, so we can correspond re. mods you have done to Centaur. Initially I am interested in your hot water central heating and chart table mods - just for starters !!
Thanks.

Re: Point taken and I agree...

Nigel,

You're right. I remember, a couple of years ago, an advert in the PBO "Wanted" classifieds for a Centaur. Alongside it in the "For Sale" column were at least a dozen Centaurs. I couldn't understand why he had spent the money on the advert.

Re: Centaur -VC tar

Could Bobbin tell me where to obtain VC tar- trade names etc- I'm looking to do some prevention and it sounds just what I'm looking for- never seen it referred to before?

Cheers
