I've borrowed CN by Tom Cunliffe from Tome and am reading it again (and again). I'm just getting there so any other stuff will probably only confuse the issue!
It is bloody tuff learning from a book again, it's funny how reading and absorbing are two different things! - I'm gettin' too old!
I am also doing celesetial nav. I dont trust the owners of the sattelites to keep them switched on. I have so far ignored Star sightings and am sticking with doing the noon sighting. It is difficult however to ever get one but keep trying. It gets a bit boring when you check your lat and long for the same place everyday. Learning the position of the stars in the northern hemisphere is great when I can see them.
I found a nice tool to generate my own excecises. Have a search around the web for Skymap Pro. This is essentially a star atlas. But you can set the observatory position and time and then read back the altitude of the bodies. The height is relative to the horizon so no need to account for dip but since it's designed to drive a telescope you do need to correct for refraction.

No stopping me now mate, done the dodgers wheel cover next.
Had to laugh when I went to Hawke House marine for the vynil letters. Told him what we wanted, he took a sheet of vynil and just drew the shapes of the letters in biro around his templates and handed me the sheet to go and cut! I'd sort of expected a neat collection of 6 A's 2 M's and 2 Y's...
It's a grey moment I'm afraid - you know what they say - think hard about the last time you remember seeing the object and it won't be far from there. I remember seeing it on Amaya but then - blank, well I was a little feverish at the time (alcohol enduced 48 hour flu me thinks).
Yes I think the ear flicker will be out tomorow with me in tow, looks a bit wet and 'orrible to take her out this weekend - might slip out meself though sat/sun if a bronze or silver pass is offered...
