Just got the news I've passed the shorebased RYA Coastal. Since the rest of my little life is going to pot at the moment it's nice to have a success.
I liked the chartwork - reminded me of proper O level maths with jommetry.
Good, experienced instructor who passed on his practical wrinkles.
Although I've got some navigating experience and training - mostly around mountains - it seemed so obviously sensible to pick up some reliable routines from those who know. A long time ago now friends and I muddled through on old gaff cutters and it was nerve racking and risky.
I am certainly glad I have done it. It's obviously not the whole story on skippering. But I thought I'd put my 2pennorth in to the recurring debate on the value of sailing qualifications.
I've still got a worrying leak though.
