CE/RCD certification

Hi,
I am hoping to buy an older sailboat in USA and sail her back to Europe. I am aware of the VAT, import dues and RCD certification.
My question is, has anybody imported a sailboat from non EEC country and this sailboat had to go trough the process of CE/RCD certification (not talking about exemption from RCD)? Could you let me know what is involved, regarding time and money and all?

I am actually doing the same. I have bought a boat in New York and intend sailing her over in early May. Lots of red tape but still worth it I reckon. Check out HM Revenue & Customs and CE Proof

I have contacted a firm to look at getting the CE sorted out. Engines seem to be the biggest area of concern. Approx cost for me is £2800! But some work I can do myself hopefully!
