What exactly does an American boat need done to it too comply with European RCD
regs and be CE Marked?

Is there a list available online?
BTW, the boat is being ordered from a UK dealer.
Just wanting to check, that when i order the boat it is properly CE compliant.

Cheers

Alistair.

I doubt wether a dealer here could/would be allowed to sell a non ce marked boat to a european customer. Don't quote me on that tho.

A UK dealer is not allowed to sell you a new boat that is not CE marked.

Have a look on our website www.ceproof.com for some guidance about what is required.

The pointers to look out for are the builders plate, normally visible from the helm, this is the CE mark. States what category the boat is in, maximum number of persons, horsepower etc.
Secondly the declaration of conformity inside the Owners Manual. This states that the boat conforms and often details what relevent standards have been used in proving that the boat conforms.

Ali, don't worry about it. Ordering from a reputable dealer the boat will be CE marked - you'll see the stamp on the transom. Also there will ne a sticker inside the boat somewhere. Stop fretting! It's a new boat so will meet all Euro standards. It's only on older "grey" imports where a problem may arise - and I can fix that too! Or rather know a man who can - oh and it's all legal and above board.

Thankyou Baz, Davina and Duncan, I know my current boat has a CE mark atthe side of the Helm, and i expect the next will have the same, But that doesn't mean its been done properly, or to the right standards!!! I think i was told once that they actually do it in the Factory before shipping, would that be right?
Duncan thankyou for pointing me to your site, I am busy reading up on it.

Cheers

Hi Duncan

Your website highlights the need to get engine noise levels checked 'From 1st January 2006 all craft will need their engines to comply with new sound and exhaust emission requirements.'

Does this mean that even with CE and RCD compliance, in addition, I need to get my engine noise levels checked b4 2006 which your site indicates? or is the noise element encompassed in CE and RCD complaince if already issued.

My point here is that ALL boat owners will have to have their engine noise levels checked b4 the end of the year. If so where can I find criteria for the noise levels and how to go about getting it.

I see a get-quick-rich scheme here!

Thanks

Should be OK.

CE marking is usually in a fairly prominent place (e.g. on a plate just below the throttle on my US imported boat). But if your Fletcher is pre June '98 then the RCD doesn't apply (?) and I don't suppose it will be marked anyway.

(Edit: well, when I say "just below" the throttle, what I really mean is "just in in front of". Here's a photo of a sister ship (a slightly earlier model than mine), clearly showing the CE marking plate.)

Fletcher is 2002 so out of curiosity I must now find the CE plate /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I thought that pre-June 98 boats were still affected but only if the boat was used in the UK before that time?

It's all just so damn confusing!

Look for two things:
- the CE marking on the builders plate.
- the declaration of conformity.

This last one is sometimes hidden in the user's manual, but contains usefull info. It should state that the vessel is compliant with the RCD, should contain the manufacturers details, and the party responsible within the EU. As Kim siad: it is the person that puts the product on the EU market who is responsible for the compliancy.
