I have a perfectly serviceable, Jeanneau supplied SOny CD player on board, but I can only connect my new fangled iPlod through VHF thingy. Not bad out at sea, but a total ripe raw pain along the Essex Coast, as Rappin Hoodies operate illegal radio stations everywhere.

So, I have phoned one firm who have offered my another Sony unit the CDXGT50Ui for about 115 quid.
This has a flylead iPlod out the back which charges and connect the fangly thing, and a 3.5mm jack on the front and also a USB port on the front. It has the usual CD/Radio and Blutooth (I think), but......

Does the panel have a recommendation for something swish? Maybe a remote ?

Speakers and SubWoofer/Amp already installed.

FWIW The iPod transmitter gadget in SWMBO's car works without interference between Sydenham and Fox's : Frequency 91.5.

Doesn't work on it's internal batteries though; needs to be plugged in to the ciggie lighter.

Depends on what you would like to spend.

There are a couple of companies from the big names such as Sony and Clarion that will allow you to use their eqivelent of NMEA ( sony is called Unilink and Clarion is called CeNet)

The above communications will allow you to use a IPOD interface in place of a CD changer.

You can then add a wired waterproof remote to the system to control the Ipod through their interface.

In my opinion a nice setup is a Sony CDX-R35M ( Marine head unit with CD/DVD playback) installed below, a Sony Unilink Ipod interface which charges the IPod and allows the Ipod to be stored out of the way, I would alos use the Sony RM - X55M waterproof wired remote control installed in the cockpit.

Once installed the IPOD is connected via flylead to the Head unit and stored in a locker. The IPOD can then be controlled from either the head unit or the remote in the cockpit, either will display track names etc, with a bit of a google you should be able to find it for a lot less than £300 ( don't go to a marine outfit, any of the online sony stockists from the car stereo world will be able to sell it too you) if you need a diagram or anything the please PM and i will only be too pleased to help ( ex boy racer who used to a have a large stereo)

Argos have had that model advertised for £49.99 for ages, but never have any stock /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif It would be a steal at that price.

Loads of brand new ones on ebay.

Cheapest option -Disconnect the FM aerial from the back of the expensive thing and presto no 'Rappin hoodies' no other interference, just IPOD. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Does your Sony take cassettes? If it does you could use a cassette adapter. Does your Sony link to a CD changer? If it does, can you disconnect the CD changer to plug in an aux in lead as I have done with my Pioneer
