if you sail from Greece, you can do check in in Lastovo. No problems (did it six times).
You can also sail to Vis or wherever (as long as you do not "cross the line/12nm border").
There is no law that would force you to sail first to Cavtat. Forget Cavtat.
And I always say I came from Corfu... or that I am sailing to Corfu when making check-out in Ubli, Lastovo.

about Croatia.
It is not just "free" anchoring that is not so free everywhere in Croatia.
You know both regions as I do and I can not agree that prices are the same (eating out, shopping etc...).
But this is or it will be an unproductive debate...
For me, Greece is the last "free" country in this part of the world. Probably it won't last long, so I'll try to enjoy it...

As per earlier threads you seem to be sailing in a different Croatia to the one I was based in for the last 4 of the last 6 years. Supermarket food no more expensive but eating out is of course, but for much higher quality food to Greece. As for anchoring - never had to or been asked to pay in any anchorage over years and most people report the same. Marinas are horribly expensive for an overnight, but like town quays have good water, laid lines and electricity reliably.

I have started to like Greece but its unreliability, lack of variety of food and few lovely anchorages (although I'm starting to find some) and poor architechture mean I'm unlikely to be a convert in the "Greece is better than Croatia" stakes.

Alex as Rupert just said , you really sailing in a very different Croatia .
Last time in Croatia we spend three month every night at anchor never once did we have to pay ok I have to admin three time some fly by night tried it on each time they just took off empty hand .
We just been back less then a week and there no doubt our one and only shopping trip was not only cheaper then out last supermarket shop in Greece ,
Which is the same we found last time here , not only that but the more fresh and better food .
Last meal in Greece , Preveza by the boat yards , nothing special about it and just a main coarse with half lts of wine , 30 euros ,
we sat for a lunch with half lts wine in Cavtat . As we know it not cheap there 150 KN around 21 euros , best part was we wasn't given stale toasted bread and charge for it like we was in Greece .
We just spend two night anchored in Zaton , if I had to compare it with an anchorage in Greece I would say Vlikho , an long inlet with a big bay at the end surrounded by hillside , but that were the simulated stop , Zaton is clean you can see the bottom in 8 mts , the quay side is clean no rubbish , the villages is tidy, small boat are neatly moored , compared with Vlikho who's water are so polluted , it smells badly at times , the quayside if full of abandoned boat some half sunken rubbish and plastic every where And the property are a mess the only once that still ok is the VYC .
And to top it up The town quay been taken over by a charter company .
Greece is white and blue houses one island after another , Croatia as loads of history , charming towns and villages and spectacular views .

Alex , we are not some sailor who been on a flotilla holiday and decide to buy a yacht , we harden cruising sailor , I myself have spend over 19 years sailing in the Med so I think I have some idea what is what . And if you think Greece is the only place left where you can free anchor my friend , or the only free country ,
you really not been any where .
I don't wish to sound rude but ,
You need to put your country and Croatia history behind you .

Why do you mention history?
In fact, since you know the region so well, people used to live much better in the past. I am not being nostalgic but I had to reply on this.

Never mind. My sy is moored in Croatia and I have been visiting Croatia and Greece for the past 18 years (every year both countries).
But I won't go into it, explaining "restaurant on Ravni Žakan is overpriced since the serve only .....", but lamb chops in taverna Ambelaki on Meganissi are great etc.
I am sure we can find in every country, region, even between sailors, some really f... up people.
And I got the picture.

As said before: enjoy. And do not hesitate to ask me if you need an advice on anything regarding sailing in Croatia.
