Hi Everyone,

I have an oldish CAV water separator on my fuel line.
It has a plastic transparent bowl with a tap at the base,

On disassembly for cleaning the bowl and a conical plastic insert fell into a container with the fuel contents.
On reassembly I can't work out if the conical inset should fit into the bowl "peak" up or "peak" down if you see what I mean. It seems to fit either way up.
Also there doesn't seem to be any o rings or gaskets which I was expecting.
The unit has been working fine but I was cleaning out the fuel tank so I thought I should de mank the separator .
Any advice appreciated

The cone should sit like an upside down funnel, the idea is as the fuel goes through it swirls and the heavier bits (debris/water) go to the outside and drop under the cone out of the flow and stay there out of the way till it's drained off.

That's correct, they work pretty well too, even take out asphaltenes.
