Caterpillar Model 3108 V8 Turbocharged diesel engine

Can anyone provide me with some information on one of these engines: Caterpillar Model 3108 V8 Turbocharged diesel.

I am told two are fitted to the boat I may buy shortly, a Squadron 43, if anyone has a workshop manual in electronic format it would be a great help! I would like to estimate fuel consumption.

i was alongside a P85 3 wks ago with 2 x cats. one engine woz on its third ems the last one fitted that day in Oostende. the owner wasnt a happy bunny

Hi John, do you mean 3208's ? best plan is to go and have a look at boatdiesel.com. Lots of info there about them but I think they would be v good. Does make scary reading as no one posts when everything is OK tho

Can't speak for the 3208's I have a pair of CAT 3126's previously had Volvo's. Differences I have noticed is that they feel they are real heavy duty and built to last (but again maintenance is key, I try to do as much myself and wth the CAT's its all old technology and pretty easy). For me max RPM is around 2800 whereas same boat with outdrives (KAD43's) is 3800ish so less stress.

Generally the CAT will be a bigger capacity engine my 3126's are 7litre lumps as opposed to 4litre volvo's. Good thinking put into engines (inbuilt oil extractor for engine and gearbox oil, handed oil and fuel filters, beautifully put together, parts are not that expensive some part are mad tho...CAT impellor is £100..........ASAP do the same one and NOT pattern at £50.

Downside is fuel consumption. I think you will have trouble finding a manual as a pdf. I have been after a 3126 workshop manual FOR AGES and cant find one

I am assured by the boat owner that they are 3108's 435hp engines, I should have the engine numbers soon. I will try Boatdiesel but if anyone else has any useful info on these engines I would be most grateful to receive it.

Just received an email from the boat owner, they are 3208's 435hp engines. I will start a new thread now to seek further info particularly following receipt of Volvopaul's comments!
