Catamaran sinks?

I had the previous owner of the boat on the phone this morning telling me the bad news and how bad he was feeling.
The vessel was a Wharram Tangaroa called 'South seas'. He had owned this boat since the seventies and had maintained it throughout but recently due to age and other commitments and also the amount of work needed to bring her back up to scratch he decided to sell her. The purchaser of the boat was left in no doubt about her condition and the work needed to get her back to her former glory.
The previous owner of the boat advised the purchaser not to take her on the day in question as he felt it would not be wise given the boats condition, but the purchaser was keen to get it back to the Isle of Wight from Poole to start working on her.
Apparently the crossbeams all broke at the same time and she just came apart. The beams were known to be in need of replacement and the vessel was advertised with this all stated.
I understand that the lifeboat was exercising nearby at the time which was fortunate and the crew were picked up.

Suffice to say that the previous owner is feeling pretty low at the loss of a boat that had meant so much to him.
