Providing that the luff and foot are of similar length, is there any reason why a main sail off a mono hull cannot be used on a catamaran.

My cat mainsail is flat topped with a large roach unlike most monohulls I see which need a backstay. I am guessing that the cat will probably be underpowered with a monohull mainsail, all else being equal.

The luff of the main that was on the lagoon 440 had a lot of curve cut into it. Im not sure if a sail of a mono will have that much curve.
We just need something on a temp basis..
 
Yes it will "work", but a typical catamaran rig uses a short mast with a masively roached mainsail to get the required sail area. It will be like sailing with a permanent reef in, so you may have to furl away quite a bit of foresail to get her balanced and won't achieve anything like the usual boat speed.
