Does anyone know if any of the marinas or boat yards in Poole can lift a 50 foot by 20 ft wide cat (10 tonnes)

Looking at websites most don't give widths only lengths.

Failing that is there anywhere a cat that can take the ground on her hulls can dry out for several hours (I've been out of the UK for 5 years sailing but I seem to recall Poole has a double high tide with not much drying?)

The boat is damaged and has a temporary patch on the hull. She's shipping across from the Caribbean on a freighter which was due to stop at Southampton and offload where she would then be hauled out and the fist sized hole re-glassed before I move her to Chichester. Now Southampton has been changed to Poole due to congestion in port and I don't feel happy taking her all the way to the Solent without at least doing a better fix on the hole - so need to haul out or beach her for a few hours. Any suggestions please?

Sadly we don't get the choice, they do water to water load/unload - and of course its a large ship so only goes to a commercial dock which means they couldn't get to most boatyards even if they wanted to!

I'll call Cobbs and see if there new lift is big enough, I know their old one was not - thanks for the tip Milestone

Try Elkins Boatyard at Christchurch 01202-483141. Not far. If a temp repair is required in Poole, Blood Alley south of Brownsea Island has a firm bottom but doesn't always dry out fully depending upon where the patch is on your hull.

Try Ridge Wharf. Also worth talking to the Harbour Commissioners to see if they will allow off loading onto the dock as I think they have a crane that will lift in the water.

Few places good enough to dry out on a hard bottom and on a spring tide you get little time fully dried out as the flood comes in very quickly. However, might be worth trying a slipway such as the one in Cobbs, particularly if the hole is near the end of the boat, but you would need a spring tide.

When you say "large ship". In Poole?.. Are they really wanting to off-load into the water? Just seems a bit unusual (to me)
