I have a 10m Catamaran 4.2m beam and 1m draft. I have visited London in it, from the Sea and also done more than a few kilometres in the French canal system. I do have a holding tank. Do I need to have other certificates before attempting a cruise upriver? And how far can I get to? I have dinghied Bristol to Reading on the Kennet and Avon, and also taken the Cat up to Bristol by sea, It would be nice to complete the circum-navigation.

You don't give your vessels height, are you sail or power? Assuming sail and stepping your mast, this will give the vessel the customary low profile. In which case the Thames will present you no problem almost as far as Oxford. A Visitors Licence too will be simply obtained, I will leave that to 'Teddington' to explain as it could quite likely him issuing it.

Hi ,

We don't need to see any other certificates when you arrive at teddington. When you sign your SPR ( short period registration ) form , you sign to declare that you comply with the regs of the BSS ( boat safety scheme ) in every respect and that you have the minimum insurance cover required ( believe it is £1m third party ).

Getting to Reading should pose no problem assuming he mast can be stepped.

We can sell you an SPR in multiples of one week , or monthly should you choose.

Best wishes
