Did anyone else listen to the program on radio 4 today about the Hull Charity CatZero?

All about a charity in hull that runs a (I think) ex BT challenge boat and takes kids out sailing...

A excellent listen... really really worthwhile. Its heartening to hear that something can be done to help young people who are really on a downward path...

Here is the show... "Boot Camp on a Boat"

Well done to Cat Zero!

I heard it too and was very inspired - The Jubilee Sailing Trust is another charitable organisation that does fantastic voyages around the world on tall ships, crewed by people of all abilities, with age groups from 16 - 80+. They have two tall ships that have been built especially with lifts for wheelchairs, signs in braille and a talking compass to enable every crew member to be fully involved.

I have sailed with them many times, and find that every member of the crew made from people from all walks of life facing different challenges, will come away from each voyage with valuable life lessons.

A very inspirational story and one that proves sail training charities aren't just about people larking about on big boats. Cat Zero use a Challenger 72 same as the Ocean Youth Trust and TallShips Youth Trust. Challenge Wales also uses a Challenger 72; they are excellent boats for sail training. Challenge Wales is my local (South Wales) sailing charity and I always have full support for their hard work. Sailing is an excellent way to give young people a new lease in life and to grow important life skills.
