CAT 3126TA 420hp Engine Manual

I am looking at a boat with Cat 3126TA 420hp engines and was wondering if anyone had a service manual for them which they could email or send so I could take a look?

I have read several threads on here stating significant issues in early production, the ones I am looking at are 2002 Serial Number: 6MK01235

I was hoping to contact Finning to see if they might be able to check records of any warranty repairs undertaken, that rectified some of the early defects.

Any advice or info welcome.

Hi, Finning will be able to tell you basic data on your engines, if they have been Cat maintained then all that data also. If the previous sent oil / fuel samples in they will have all that info too. Key important one is oil changes every 200 hours or annual, plus rack adjust at 800 hours if required. Another one to watch for is the oil needs to be single grade 30w, Cat in the US do a special oil, not available in UK so Finnings supply Taurus 30W. Multi grade oils block the charge cooler

Fairly robust engines and easy to maintain, I have an electronic owners manual but not the service manual, anything a bit more difficult I have found Finnings to be very helpful and never had any difficulty getting help and support from them, drop me a pm with your email and I will send the owners manual to you.

Don’t worry about the soft block rumour, any units that had that problem are well dead by now

Just to say a big thank you to Spare Thyme for some useful advice and info given on the Cat 3126TA's - very similar operating characteristics to your engines, also 6MK... :

Rated 420 HP (313kW) at 2800 RPM
Bare Engine High Idle 3141 RPM
Year: 2002

I had already downloaded some useful info from Boatdiesel, the oil reports sent for comparison were also useful.
