well got a surprise...

started to strip off the old GRP cascovering to do some local repairs and found a proper deck!.... well nearly....

teak faced ply... the problem that now faces me is this...

should i just repair the manky bits of replace the decks with the proper stuff???

oh... and where do i get it from?

I think that the answer is posed by another question; how deep are your pockets? How much can you do yourself, and how much must you get someone else to do? There are many species other than teak which are durable and suitable for decks, but which one to use? Lots of research required before you do anything.

hi ben...

looks like a conundrum iv'e been faced with before.

however things have changed and the financial constraints placed on me in the passed have gone (along with my house, pension etc.. but i digress)

i'm now looking at doing the thing properly. so when i found the teak deck under all the plastic poo i thought that i should restore rather than repair... just wondered where to get the faced ply from??

anyway, good to hear from you, and i hope that all is well with you and yours. have a happy new year and you never know, we might get to meet up on the water at some point next year.

regards steve.

Hi Steve, good to see you are going to bring "Fast Monarch" back to life. Have you tried Howells at Cobbs Quay...they do all things teak deck...I think they will make up deck panels and / or supply teak faced ply....I have always found them very helpful with advice etc... cheers Iain

One thing, cascover is not GRP, other thing is, think why the deck was sheathed in GRP in the first place. I would look very carefully about putting teak faced ply back on, but if it is not in high wear areas, it will be fine. Also consider using think teak strip, over the existing teak faced ply, but repaired where ness.
