Just a quick one.
It looks like there are two marina's in Cartagena.
Which one is best to go into and is there much difference in price?
Thanks for any replies

The one on the right hand side as you go in. Good security and facilities - can't tell you about the price though, someone else was paying.

Enjoy Cartagena, lots to see

Yes... there are a couple. The new 'Yacht Port Cartagena' as edsailing says is on the right hand side and the older marina 'Real Club de Regatas Cartagena', which lays at the back of it.. (if I remember correctly). I think this one is used by mainly local boats though. I stayed on the long visitors pontoon alongside the paseo for 24 hours in YPC. Plenty of life...:) Bit of a surge at times too, but nothing too drastic. Staff were helpful and friendly and two years ago it was 25 euros + VAT a day for a 10mtr boat. Value for money???... hmmn not sure on that, they'd spent a bit too much on the palatial offices etc for my liking. The town is beautiful though, could have spent days wandering around the historic parts, and from the visitors pontoon you can be in the centre of it in minutes.

It was the second time I'd been in to Cartagena, and the two approaches couldn't have been more different. The first time was on a flat hot windless afternoon and the second was akin to riding a roller coaster after a S/Easterly blow. The wind had abated but the sea refraction from the walls and cliffs in the entrance was quite something to behold.

Just found this... http://www.noonsite.com/Countries/Spain/Cartagena

Cartagena is lovely, we've certainly had many a chat with you echoing that. Again as we've said before, we stay in the Real Cub de Regattas - that's the first one, helpful staff; extremely close to the town (we moor on the main wall); decent facilities etc. The other marina has security (I.e gates to pontoons etc) and is reputedly slightly cheaper, they don't charge extra for multihulls. Maybe a few euro cheaper for a mono than the Regattas marina. We spent 3 nights there a month ago, before summer rates kicked in, and were charged 55 euro per night.
Great place, love stopping there, always things going on and loads to do/see. Leaving there at dawn should see you making Ibiza sometime early hours of the following morning, happy days :)

Nostrodamous, I can recommend YPC, it has far better security than the "town" marina, you can contact them on marina@yachtportcartagena.com or +34 (968) 12 12 13 and ask for Julia who will answer your questions, she speak good English. Cartagena is a great town and far different to the towns you will have found along southern Spain, I am sure you will enjoy it. Unfortunately I cant give you prices as we were on the winter "deal" up until we left in April.

We've stayed at both and would return to the Real Club. Apart from being that bit more central and very friendly it was much cheaper. In Aug '11 we were charged €28 a night (for 12m mono) vs €39 in Aug '09 in the newer marina.

Can anyone in Cartagena clarify the situation re berth holders at YPC using the facilities of the Real Clubhouse!?
They wouldn't let my family swim in their pool in Sept after inquiring as to our berth.
Is it poss to join the Real Club temporarily whilst being economical with the truth!!?
And where does one buy Camping Gaz? I'm going to see what the wx is like in Nov.

Camping gaz, near the chandlery - other side of the fishing port. It's quite a walk but a taxi will happily take you then you can just walk back? (It's passed the gardens, down the Paseo del Muelle and a tad further..)

Facilities; I asked to use their very old school basement gym and got permission after bribing them with home made chocolate brownies - doubt that helps at all!

Think the little chandlery does camping gaz. Come out of YPC turn right and walk for about 700 yards its on the left or was in 2006.

You're right, it is the chandlery (as of May this year).
Bit of a longer walk from where we were. So forget the "using facilities comment", I exchanged cakes for a week gym pass even though we were in their marina!

I was intending to keep my boat in Valencia next year until I read that the marinas are enforcing the G5 tax collection. Turning back to look into Cartagena instead. Looks a very viable alternative. Do you know if UK boats are charged the G5 tax here?

There was no mention of G5 tax when we wintered there 2011/12, & no report from those who spent last winter their.
