My 26 footer has no rail on which to fix an outboard carrying bracket. So I've been stowing it below. The pushpit is really two corner stanchions supported in a triangular manner by supporting tubes. A wire connects them I could fit a bracket high up on the transom but would that be liable to catch a wave and submerge te o/b?

Any other suggestions?

If it's just a transportation pad, my outboard carrying pad is 1" marine ply, capped with hardwood and clipped round my stanchion by semi-circular, SS Brackets. It's only supporting a Tohatsu 3.5 but it's done its job well for five years. As long as the top of the pad is at least long enough to carry the outboard and give purchase to the clamps, the bottom can be sized to make sure the brackets are securely fixed to the main stanchion and one of the triangulation pieces.

I have the same arrangement as Top Cat.

I suppose the whole lot could be carried away by the sort of sea I have been lucky enough to avoid so far but I'd rather run that risk than have petrol in the bilge.

All that weight right aft is also undesirable but the only alternative I can think of for a boat my size (28') would be to have a bracket mounted on the mast. Maybe I'll get around to it one day . . :)
