I will come to the Carribean this December, probably arriving in Martinique, I will then return home for a few months. Since the ARC will arrive at neighbour St. Lucia around the same time, I plan on avoiding Rodney Bay. Anyone who can give me recommendations regarding a safe marina to keep my boat for say 6 months or so? I would particularly welcome and appreciate any websites listing facilities with contact-info (Marinas.com lists marinas but unfortunately without Email-addresses). Thanks in advance for your help.

What is your plan for 6 months later?
Just asking, because that is when hurricane season is starting here in the Caribbean.

There are various marinas / haul-out yards in the islands - here are some, starting from the bottom of the chain with Grenada.

Grenada Marine : http://grenadamarine.com/ (haul out yard rather than a marina)
Spice Island Marine : http://www.spiceislandmarine.com (also a haul out yard)
Port Louis Marina : http://www.cnmarinas.com/marinas/port-louis

Carriacou : Tyrell Bay Yacht Haul-out - http://www.carriacouboatyard.com/

St Vincent : Ottley Hall - http://marinas.com/view/marina/8648_Ottley_Hall_Marina_&_Shipyard_Kingstown
No yacht marina berths as such, and not a lot of room ashore for yachts.

St Lucia : Apart from Rodney Bay, there is a small marina at Vigie Cove in Castries.

Martinique : Marin on the southern end is the main hub, and there is a biggish marina there - more info on Noonsite - http://www.noonsite.com/Countries/Martinique/Marin/?rc=RepairFacilities
Noonsite also has lots of info about the other islands as well.

Have a look also at Chris Doyle's Online cruising guide to the islands - http://www.doyleguides.com/islands.html

First off:
Thanks to both responders for the quick replies, this is surely helpful and in its quickness and substance positively surprising.

As to the question regarding future plans: I am a German citizen but reside in the US near Philadelphia. My boat is currently on a leg-by-leg (work interrupts life, you know) voyage "home" from the Med. After the Carribean in December I will have to work for a few months, coming back in time to escape the 2012 Hurricane season going North, closer to home.

Over the years, we have had good results with Marina Fort-Louis on the French side. Looking at last year's rate card, 40 feet is Euros 3100 for 6 months. Also a factor are the port charges. The french are not expensive, as I recall. The Dutch side is expensive.

Advantage to SXM: it is a yachting center with every resource a short cab or bus ride from the waterfront. Daily flights to everywhere.

the web site is marinafortlouis dot com if you do it, let me know as I will be working there in January and could look at the boat, send a picture.

I don't have handy but can get the names of some SXM marinas where you could haul out for several months of dry storage.

Hope this helps.
